Is there a link between coffee and obesity?

The relationship between coffee consumption and obesity is complex and may depend on several factors such as the amount of coffee, the additives to the coffee (such as sugar and milk), and individual differences in metabolism and genetics.

Caffeine, an important component of coffee, can increase metabolism and stimulate fat burning. This may contribute to weight loss or prevent weight gain. Caffeine can also suppress appetite, which can lead to lower calorie intake.

The positive effect of coffee can be canceled out by adding a lot of sugar, cream, or other high-calorie additives. These can contribute to higher calorie intake and possibly weight gain.

The effects of caffeine may vary depending on individual differences in genetics and tolerance to caffeine. Some people may experience an increased appetite or other negative effects that can contribute to weight gain.

Studies on the relationship between coffee and obesity are often observational and show mixed results. Some studies suggest that coffee consumption may be associated with a lower risk of obesity, while other studies find no significant effect.
