What is music therapy and is it really useful?

Music therapy is a form of therapy that uses music to treat the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of individuals.

It is a process in which a trained music therapist uses music and musical elements such as rhythm, melody and harmony to achieve therapeutic goals.

The goals of music therapy can vary depending on the client's needs. It helps people express and process their feelings. Music can help lower stress levels and promote relaxation. Music therapy can help improve social skills and communication, especially in people with autism or other developmental disabilities. Rhythmic elements of music can be used to improve motor skills, for example in people recovering from a stroke.

Music therapy can include different methods and techniques, such as listening therapy, active music therapy and structured music activities.

Music therapist is not a recognized medical profession. The scientific basis is not robust at this time.
