Is colchicine a miracle cure for COVID-19?
Tests have been conducted in Canada and many other countries administering colchicine to people with severe COVID-19. Colchicine is an anti-inflammatory drug normally used for gout and familial Mediterranean fever. In COVID-19, it would also work against the inflammation that can occur in the lungs and other organs.
Unfortunately, the drug has not proven its usefulness and is even rarely used against COVID-19. Outside the hospital, the use of Colchicine against COVID-19 is strongly discouraged due to the serious side effects such as gastrointestinal complaints, anemia and blood disorders.
