Could mutation make COVID-19 even deadlier?
All living things undergo mutations. Bacteria and viruses are no exception. They adapt all the time to survive.
A typical example is bacteria that mutate to become resistant to antibiotics. The purpose of mutating is therefore not so much aimed at becoming more deadly but at surviving. This also applies to viruses. They even need humans or another host to survive. Mutated viruses that kill their host therefore have little chance of survival themselves. The risk that COVID-19 would become more deadly is therefore extremely small but not non-existent.
