How can you prevent hearing damage during a concert?
Hearing damage during a performance can be prevented by a combination of personal protective measures and awareness of noise levels. Here are some effective strategies.
Noise levels above 85 decibels can be harmful with prolonged exposure. Use an app to measure the noise level. Invest in high-quality earplugs designed specifically for music performances. These earplugs reduce the noise level without affecting the sound quality too much. There are also universal earplugs available for single use that are quite effective.
Do not stand too close to the speakers. The further you are from the sound source, the lower the noise level. Find places where the noise level is slightly lower, such as near the sides of the room. Give your ears a rest by taking a break every now and then and going to a quieter place.
If you experience ringing in the ears (tinnitus) after a performance, rest your ears and avoid loud noises for a few days. If hearing problems persist, consult a doctor.
