Does hydroxychloroquine work against COVID-19?
According to some experts and world leaders, hydroxychloroquine would be the panacea against COVID-19.
Hydroxychloroquine is originally an anti-malaria drug. The drug was also investigated as a treatment for patients with the coronavirus. Studies in large groups of patients show that hydroxychloroquine does not have a beneficial effect on COVID-19.
On the contrary, more deaths occurred in patients who took hydroxychloroquine than in those who did not take it. Therefore, hydroxychloroquine is no longer recommended in the treatment of COVID-19. Also in the combination with zinc and azithromycin, there appear to be more disadvantages than advantages to the use of hydroxychloroquine.
