Are there super fat burners?

The concept of "super fat burners" is often used in the marketing of diet pills, supplements and certain foods that promise to speed up metabolism and burn fat faster. However, the effectiveness and safety of these products are often questionable and not always scientifically substantiated.

For example, caffeine is said to temporarily increase metabolism and stimulate fat burning. Green Tea Extract contains catechins and caffeine, which together are said to help burn fat, especially around the abdominal area. Capsaicin, a compound found in chili peppers, is thought to increase metabolism by raising body temperature, a process called thermogenesis. High-protein diets are said to increase metabolism by causing the body to use more energy to digest and process proteins.

There are many supplements on the market that claim to be "super fat burners." Some of the most popular ingredients are L-carnitine, conjugated linoleic acid and Yohimbine.

Most of these substances have little evidence that they can increase metabolism or stimulate fat burning. The effects on body weight are therefore non-existent. In addition, some supplements may have side effects or interact with medications.
