Can we still get the Spanish flu?
The Spanish flu never disappeared but has become less strong over the years. The Spanish flu is actually just the H1N1 virus and is therefore a family of the current flu viruses. An infection with the H1N1 virus is now banal.
But in 1918 an infection with the Spanish flu was dramatic. The population was severely weakened at the end of the First World War and therefore more susceptible to infection.
