Do essential oils work against viruses?

Essential oils are said to have antiviral and antibacterial effects. For example, Ravensara, Eucalyptus, yellow and red thyme, oregano, geranium and tea tree are said to have a very specific effect on the respiratory tract.

Unfortunately, their effect is purely placebo and at most they relieve symptoms. These essential oils will in no way protect you against COVID-19 or any other microorganism. In some people, the essential oils will even worsen the complaints because they irritate the airways.
