Insomnia

About 1 in 4 of the elderly sleep poorly and can therefore function less well during the day. Below is more explanation as well as a few tips for better sleep.

You have a sleeping problem if you have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep at least three times a week and also experience this during the day. A lack of sleep during the night can lead to headaches and stomach aches, concentration problems, a bad mood and depression during the day.

Normally we sleep about 7 hours a day. The first four hours of sleep are essential. We build up a reserve for the remaining hours in case we sleep less. If you don't have a reserve, you will wake up tired in the morning.

There are many tricks to sleep well: don't drink coffee until three hours before bedtime, don't watch television in bed, don't eat fruit before bedtime, don't exercise just before bedtime and go to sleep around the same time every day.

If you can't fall asleep, get up and do something quiet until you feel tired again. If all this does not help, you can ask your doctor for help.
