Muscle cramps
Everyone knows the muscle cramps we get when we have done too much exercise. But there are many other forms of cramps and muscle pain.
The cramps we get from exercising too vigorously actually occur because lactic acid builds up in the muscles. The worse our condition, the faster lactic acid will build up and the faster we will have cramps.
But you can also get cramps and/or pain in your calves because your blood flow is not optimal. Smokers, people with diabetes and people with arteriosclerosis are particularly affected by this. They often cannot walk 100 meters without having to rest. This is a serious signal and often requires surgical intervention to solve the problem.
But muscle cramps can also occur because you don't drink enough or because your salt balance is disturbed (e.g. in people who use water removers).
If the cramps persist, a visit to the doctor is definitely in order.
