Was sind die Warnzeichen für einen Schlaganfall?

Every day in Belgium, approximately 50 people suffer a stroke. What exactly is a stroke and what should you do if you suspect a stroke?

A stroke occurs when part of the brain does not receive enough blood, for example due to a clot in a blood vessel that runs in or to the brain. But bleeding in the brain can also cause strokes. Strokes will mainly occur in people with elevated blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes, but also in people with certain cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation.

In the event of a stroke, it is important to go to a specialized hospital with a stroke unit as quickly as possible because the clot can be dissolved there.

To easily remember the signs of a stroke, there is a memo-technical rule: the FAST test: Face (misalignment of the mouth), Arm (paralysis or sudden loss of strength in an arm), Speech (speech disorders) and Time (check how long the complaints last). already present).
