Sweaty feet
Everyone's feet sweat sometimes. But the problem with sweaty feet is the unpleasant pungent odor. Why does this happen and what can you do about it?
Sweaty feet occur because the feet are warm and moist and this allows bacteria to multiply. It is the waste products of these bacteria and the dead bacteria themselves that cause the unpleasant odor.
The problem can be tackled with simple means. Be especially careful to keep your feet dry. You can do this by wearing different shoes every day, not wearing plastic shoes, preferably using leather shoes, wearing wool or cotton socks and using shoe trees made of cedar or mahogany.
There are also numerous products sold such as odor removers, sprays, boric acid flakes, etc. These are often only a temporary solution. The best solution is to disinfect the feet with alcohol, for example, which kills the bacteria. You can also wash your feet with iodine-containing soap.
