Nose bleeding

Most people don't go to the doctor for a nosebleed and they don't have to. Our doctor will tell you how to get a nosebleed and what is the best thing to do.

A nosebleed is usually caused by a fall, a blow, blowing too hard or picking your nose. But sometimes your nose starts to bleed seemingly on its own due to a cold or dry air. Older people sometimes have nosebleeds because their blood vessels are more irritable. In addition, they more often use blood-thinning medications, which can cause significant bleeding from minor damage.

If you have a nosebleed, you should sit with your head bent forward. It is best to pinch your nose tightly for ten minutes, at the level of the nostrils, just below the nasal bone. If the bleeding does not stop after ten minutes of squeezing, continue with another 10 minutes of continuous squeezing. If that doesn't work, or if you have nosebleeds that often recur, especially in babies and the elderly, call your doctor.
