ADHD
In recent decades, children have been diagnosed with ADHD more and more often. But what exactly is ADHD and can you do something about it?
ADHD is the abbreviation for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. The disease usually occurs in children but can also occur in adults. People with ADHD have difficulty concentrating. They can be hyperactive, impulsive and easily distracted. They have a hard time doing tasks they don't like. They have difficulty completing an assignment and children cannot put away their toys.
Not every attention disorder is due to ADHD. ADHD is more common in certain families. The diagnosis is often made incorrectly. ADHD can really be said to exist if the symptoms start before the age of seven, occur everywhere and not just in the classroom, are severe and last at least six months, and are abnormal for the child's age.
ADHD can be treated with medications, behavioral therapy or a combination of both.
