Electronic cigarettes
The electronic cigarette has entered the street scene in recent years. But are these cigarettes healthy and can you smoke them everywhere?
The electronic cigarette is also called the e-cigarette. It is an electronic device that resembles a cigarette but does not contain tobacco. The e-cigarette does contain an evaporator that releases vapor when you suck on it. The vapor is generated by heating propylene glycol to which nicotine can be added or not.
In Belgium, e-cigarettes are subject to smoking legislation, which means that they are prohibited from being used in, for example, food and beverage establishments.
Nicotine-containing e-cigarettes also fall under the medicines legislation. As a result, the purchase of nicotine-containing vapor substances via mail order companies abroad is not permitted.
The e-cigarette is also not completely safe. Smoking can release carcinogens such as formaldehyde and these amounts are 5 to 15 times higher than with a regular cigarette.
