What are the benefits of the increased compensation?
As of 2018, there is a new status of increased compensation for patients with a low income: the 'Increased Allowance' (VT status).
Nothing will change for patients who already received increased compensation. But for those who had Omnio status, the health insurance fund will take the necessary steps to receive the Increased Allowance if they have a low income.
Patients with a VT status only pay the co-payment at the GP and a lower co-payment for some medicines, specialists, dentists, physiotherapists and in the hospital. Per year they pay a maximum of 450 euros co-payment (Maximum invoice) and a lower contribution for Flemish health insurance. They receive a 50% discount on public transport and are entitled to the social telephone rate in the event of disability or for those over 65. They also receive a heating allowance if their home is heated with bulk propane gas, domestic heating oil or kerosene from the pump.
