Health insurance
Everyone who lives in the Flemish Region and is older than 25 years must pay 50 euros annually for health insurance. But few people know what benefits this insurance offers.
The health insurance pays for non-medical assistance and services. People who are in serious need of care can receive a lump sum benefit of 130 euros per month. This applies both to people who are cared for at home and to those who stay in a recognized residential care center or in another recognized residential facility.
One must be in serious and long-term care need, live in Flanders or Brussels and have lived there continuously for the past 5 years and be affiliated with a care fund.
Most health insurance funds automatically provide their eligible members with the certificate to apply for the benefit. If you think you are eligible for health insurance and have not received a certificate, it is best to contact your health insurance fund.
