Acupuncture

Acupuncture comes from the Latin "acus" meaning needle and "pungere" meaning to prick.

Acupuncture is a treatment method that comes from traditional Chinese medicine. With acupuncture, needles are inserted into so-called acupuncture points in the body. The method has been around for more than 3,500 years and dates back to the Bronze Age where metal needles were used. Stone needles were used for this.

In addition to classical Chinese acupuncture with needles, there is also electro-acupuncture, in which a weak electrical current runs through the needles, and laser acupuncture, in which no needles are used, but a low-intensity laser light is irradiated in the usual places.

There is no scientific evidence for the alleged effectiveness of acupuncture for any condition. The so-called meridians have never been demonstrated in the human body, despite a very detailed knowledge of the human body. Acupuncture is one of the alternative medicines for which there is no evidence of effectiveness.
