Dendritic Cell Therapy
Dendritic cell therapy is therefore a form of immunotherapy in which the body's immune cells are stimulated to produce antibodies against certain (cancer) cells and to kill those cells. The therapy therefore resembles a vaccination, but the activation of the dendritic cells takes place outside the body. After blood is drawn, the cells are grown and 'trained' outside the body. They are then brought back into the body to carry out their task.
Any dendritic cell-based form of immunotherapy is still experimental. There is so far no formal proof (e.g. after a randomized study) of its effect.
