Can you be allergic to artificial nails?

Yes, it is possible to be allergic to artificial nails. People can have allergic reactions to various substances used in artificial nails, such as acrylics and the chemicals in nail glue.

Acrylates are chemicals used in acrylic and gel nails. They can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. Nail glue often contains cyanoacrylate, which can be a strong allergen. This can cause allergic reactions in people sensitive to this substance. UV gel products may also contain acrylates and can cause allergic reactions, especially if the gel is not fully cured by UV light.

The allergic reactions may include skin irritation such as redness, itching, and swelling of the skin around the nails. But small blisters or rashes can also form on the skin around the nails. In worse cases, the nail may peel or changes in the color and texture of the nail may occur.

If you experience an allergic reaction, stop using the nail products immediately and remove the artificial nails. Consult a doctor for advice and possible treatment, such as antihistamines or corticosteroids to relieve symptoms.
