What is Dead Butt Syndrome?

"Dead Butt Syndrome" (DBS), also known as gluteal amnesia, is a condition in which the gluteal muscles weaken or malfunction. This can lead to various problems such as pain in the lower back, hips, knees, and even in the ankles.

One of the main causes of DBS is sitting for long periods of time. When you sit for too long, the glutes become inactive and can 'forget' how to function. Lack of exercise or performing improper or unbalanced exercises can also contribute to weakening the glutes.

Poor posture can cause other muscles to compensate for the weak glutes, leading to further imbalance. A sedentary lifestyle without adequate physical activity can contribute to gluteal amnesia.

Pain in the lower back, hips, and knees is a common symptom. But difficulty walking or performing daily activities may also occur.

The treatment consists of specific exercises, stretching, better posture and regular exercise.
