Why is scabies such an annoying disease?
Scabies, also known as scabies, is an annoying disease because of the itching but also for several other reasons.
The most characteristic symptom of scabies is intense itching, especially at night. This itching is caused by an allergic reaction to the mites and their feces in the skin.
Scabies is highly contagious and spreads easily through direct skin-to-skin contact. This makes it difficult to control outbreaks, especially in environments where people live close together, such as in families, care homes, schools and prisons.
The symptoms of scabies can resemble other skin conditions such as eczema or allergies, which can complicate diagnosis.
Although scabies can be effectively treated with medications such as permethrin cream or ivermectin, treatment usually requires everyone in the household to be treated at the same time to prevent reinfection. In addition, clothing, bedding and towels should be washed thoroughly to prevent the mites from surviving and re-infesting.
