Why do you lose weight with Ozempic?

Ozempic is a brand name for semaglutide, a drug originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes. It works by mimicking the action of GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), a hormone that plays a role in regulating blood sugar levels and appetite. There are several mechanisms through which Ozempic may contribute to weight loss.

Ozempic acts on the brain, particularly in areas involved in appetite regulation. It makes you feel full faster, making you less inclined to eat.

The drug slows the rate at which the stomach empties, leading to a longer-lasting feeling of satiety after eating. This helps to reduce overall food intake.

By better regulating blood sugar levels and improving insulin sensitivity, Ozempic may help reduce fat storage, which indirectly contributes to weight loss. By reducing appetite and promoting a feeling of fullness, Ozempic often leads to lower calorie intake, resulting in weight loss.

Ozempic is especially effective in people with type 2 diabetes, but it is also prescribed to people without diabetes who are obese, due to its proven effects on weight loss. However, it is important to note that the use of Ozempic should be under medical supervision, as side effects may occur and the drug is not suitable for everyone.
