Can I look at the sun with sunglasses?

Even with sunglasses, it is not safe to look directly at the sun. Sunglasses are designed to protect against bright light and UV rays, but they do not provide adequate protection against the intense rays of direct sunlight, which can cause serious damage to your eyes.

Looking directly at the sun, even with sunglasses, can lead to a condition called solar retinopathy. This is damage to the retina caused by intense light radiation. It can lead to temporary or permanent vision loss.

For activities that may require you to look directly at the sun, such as during a solar eclipse, special glasses are recommended that are CE certified and have an ISO 12312-2 standard, which means they provide sufficient protection against intense solar radiation.

In short, it is best to never look directly at the sun, even with sunglasses. Always use proper eye protection when viewing the sun or a solar eclipse.
