Does Rolfing work for chronic pain?

Rolfing is an alternative form of therapy that focuses on improving posture and movement through deep manipulation of the fascia (connective tissue). The goal of Rolfing is to bring the body into balance with gravity, which is said to reduce pain and improve overall well-being.

The scientific evidence that Rolfing can help reduce chronic pain is extremely weak. The evidence is based on anecdotal reports suggesting that Rolfing may be effective in relieving pain symptoms, while other clinical studies have shown no significant benefits compared to placebo treatment or other therapies.

If you are considering trying Rolfing for chronic pain, it is advisable to discuss it with a doctor or pain management specialist to ensure it is an appropriate and safe option for your specific situation. Rolfing sessions can also be extremely expensive and are not always covered by health insurance.
