Is the Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) in the COVID-19 vaccine dangerous?

Some media and online reports claim that polyethylene glycol (PEG) is dangerous and even carcinogenic. PEG is a hydrophilic polymer. It is also called macrogol. PEG is chemically unreactive and is widely used in medicines, beauty products and in cell biology. For example, PEG is used in Interferon, a treatment for hepatitis.

Some laxatives contain a large amount of PEG. PEG has never been shown to be harmful or carcinogenic, even in people who use it daily as a treatment for constipation. Using PEG is not dangerous unless you are allergic to it.
