Does ginger stimulate the immune system?
Ginger is said to stimulate the immune system. Ginger (Zingiber officinale) has been used in traditional medicine for centuries for its numerous supposed health benefits, including strengthening the immune system.
There is some scientific evidence that certain bioactive compounds in ginger, such as gingerol, shogaol, and paradol, have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may contribute to a stronger immune system. Anti-inflammation can help regulate the immune system and reduce chronic inflammation that can weaken the immune system.
Antioxidants in ginger are said to help neutralize free radicals and protect cells against oxidative stress. This is said to contribute to overall health and supports an efficiently functioning immune system. Ginger is also said to help fight infections and strengthen intestinal health.
Although ginger is not a miracle cure, studies show that ginger at a molecular level may support and stimulate the immune system. Unfortunately, there are no studies showing that regular consumption of ginger, either fresh or in supplement form, can contribute to better health and fewer infections.
