Is a daith piercing useful against migraines?
A daith piercing is an ear piercing that goes through the cartilage of the inner part of the auricle, specifically through the fold of cartilage just above the ear canal, known as the crus of the helix. This piercing is popular as much for its unique and striking appearance as it is for its purported health benefits.
One of the interesting aspects of the daith piercing is the claim that it can help relieve migraines. This idea is based on the location of the piercing corresponding to an acupuncture point used to treat headaches and migraines. However, the evidence for this is anecdotal, and there is no scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of a daith piercing for migraine relief.
As with any piercing, there are risks associated with a daith piercing, including infections. Cartilage piercings are more susceptible to infection due to the limited blood supply to the area. The piercing may be painful and swollen during the healing process. The body may reject the jewelry or the jewelry may move if not placed correctly.
