Does decaffeinated coffee also cause heart palpitations?
Decaffeinated coffee contains a very small amount of caffeine, usually around 2-5mg per cup compared to about 95mg in a standard cup of regular coffee. While this small amount of caffeine is theoretically less likely to cause heart palpitations, it can still be a factor in sensitive individuals.
In addition, other factors in decaf coffee can contribute to heart palpitations. Some people can be extremely sensitive to even the smallest amounts of caffeine. Then, the taste and smell of coffee can trigger a psychological response in some people that increases adrenaline production, which can contribute to heart palpitations. And decaf coffee still contains other substances that can potentially affect the heart and nervous system.
If you find that you get heart palpitations after drinking decaf coffee, it may be helpful to experiment with different types or brands of decaf coffee, or switch to alternatives such as herbal teas. Also, consult a doctor to rule out any underlying health conditions.
