Does COVID-19 also appear in the urine?

SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can be present in urine, although this is less common than in other body fluids such as saliva, blood, and feces.

Several studies have detected the virus in urine of infected individuals. A study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases found traces of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in patient urine, although it was not always present in all patients.

Although SARS-CoV-2 can be found in urine, it is not considered a major route of transmission of COVID-19. The primary routes of transmission remain respiratory droplets and direct contact with contaminated surfaces. However, it is always wise to follow good hygiene practices, including regular hand washing, especially after going to the toilet.
