Does valerian work against insomnia?
Valerian root, an herb often used as a natural sleep aid, has been used for centuries to treat insomnia and other sleep disorders. However, valerian's effectiveness in promoting sleep is mixed and still being researched.
Some research suggests that valerian root may shorten the time it takes to fall asleep and improve sleep quality. It seems especially helpful for people who have trouble falling asleep. However, the variable results and methodological limitations of the studies mean it may not work for everyone.
