Why is breastfeeding so good for the baby?

Breastfeeding is the best source of nutrition for babies and offers numerous benefits for both the baby and the mother. Here are some reasons why breastfeeding is so good for babies, supported by multiple sources.

Breast milk contains the perfect mix of vitamins, proteins, and fats that are essential for your baby’s growth and development. The composition of breast milk adapts to your baby’s changing needs. Breast milk is easier to digest than artificial milk, resulting in fewer gastrointestinal problems such as constipation and diarrhea.

Breast milk is packed with antibodies that help protect your baby from infections and diseases. Colostrum, the first milk produced after birth, is especially rich in immunoglobulins such as IgA, which help fight viruses and bacteria. Breastfed babies have a lower risk of conditions such as ear infections, respiratory infections, gastrointestinal infections, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Breastfed babies are less likely to become overweight and obese later in life. This is because breastfeeding helps regulate appetite and develop healthy eating habits. Breastfeeding promotes bonding between mother and child by producing hormones such as oxytocin, which helps promote feelings of love and connection.
