In which countries is abortion allowed?

Abortion laws vary widely around the world, with some countries fully permitting abortion and others severely restricting or banning it.

In the Netherlands, Colombia, Singapore and the United Kingdom, abortion is legal up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. In Japan, Vietnam and Iceland, it is legal up to 22 weeks. In India, Thailand and New Zealand, abortion is legal up to 20 weeks. In Sweden, it is legal up to 18 weeks. In Argentina, Italy, Luxembourg, Mongolia, Austria, Romania, Spain, Tunisia and France, it is legal up to 14 weeks.

In Belgium, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Cuba, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Ireland, Czech Republic, Cape Verde, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mozambique, Nepal, North Macedonia, Norway, Belarus, Russia, San Marino, Sao Tome and Principe, Azerbaijan, Albania, Armenia, South Africa, South Ossetia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Transnistria, Switzerland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Uruguay abortion is legal up to 12 weeks. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Cyprus, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and Croatia it can be up to 10 weeks. In Guyana up to 8 weeks and in Turkmenistan up to 5 weeks.

In Canada, Guinea-Bissau, South Korea and China, abortion is legal at any time during pregnancy. In Australia, Mexico and the United States, the law varies by state.
