Does laughter therapy really work?

Laughter therapy, also known as therapeutic laughter, is a practice that aims to improve health and well-being through laughter.

Therapeutic laughter is said to reduce the levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline while increasing the production of endorphins, which can lead to a feeling of well-being and relaxation. Some studies suggest that laughter can improve immune function by increasing antibody production and immune cell activation.

Laughter is also said to release natural painkillers in the body, which can help reduce pain. Laughter therapy is said to help reduce anxiety and depression, and it can improve overall mood.

There is little evidence that laughter therapy can provide various physical and psychological benefits. The scientific basis is still developing and more research is needed to draw definitive conclusions. Laughter therapy cannot be indicated as a treatment until then.
