What is anejaculation?
Anejaculation is the inability to ejaculate, or the inability to release semen from the penis during orgasm. This can have several causes.
Anejaculation can have a neurological cause such as damage to the nerves involved in ejaculation, for example due to spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, or after prostate surgery. Stress, anxiety, depression, or relationship problems can contribute to anejaculation.
Some medications, such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, and certain blood pressure lowering drugs, can cause anejaculation. A deficiency of certain hormones, such as testosterone, can also affect ejaculation. Congenital abnormalities or injuries to the genitals can also make ejaculation difficult.
Anejaculation can have a major impact on a man's fertility and sexual well-being. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and can range from psychotherapy and medication adjustments to medical interventions or hormone therapy. It is important to consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
