Can baking soda treat mosquito bites?
Baking soda (also known as sodium bicarbonate) can help treat mosquito bites. Although it is not a cure, it can reduce itching and irritation.
Baking soda is a mildly alkaline substance that can help balance the pH of the skin. Mosquito bites often cause an acidic reaction on the skin, and the alkaline nature of baking soda can neutralize this, which can help reduce itching and redness.
Mix a small amount of baking soda with enough water to form a thick paste. Apply the paste directly to the mosquito bite. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. The treatment can be repeated several times a day if necessary.
Although baking soda is generally safe for most people, it can cause skin irritations in some people. Discontinue use if you notice your skin getting worse. Do not apply baking soda to open wounds or severely irritated skin without first consulting a doctor.
Besides baking soda, there are other home remedies that can help relieve the symptoms of mosquito bites such as cold compresses.
