Does gargling with salt water help against a COVID-19 infection?

Gargling with salt water can help soothe a sore throat and reduce mouth and throat irritation, but it is not an effective treatment for preventing or treating a COVID-19 infection.

Salt water can help soothe the throat and relieve symptoms of sore throat, which can be a common symptom of colds and flu. Gargling with salt water can also help clear mucus and irritants from the throat.

Preventing COVID-19 infection requires specific measures such as vaccination, wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and good hand hygiene. These measures have been proven effective in reducing the spread of the virus.

Although salt water gargling can help relieve sore throats and improve oral health, it is not an effective measure against COVID-19. Adhering to proven preventive measures and seeking medical attention for symptoms remains essential to combating COVID-19.
