Which mask should I wear if I think I am infected with COVID-19?
If there is a suspicion of infection with COVID-19, it is advisable for the patient to wear a regular surgical mouth mask. In this way, the infected person can avoid infecting other people.
A (homemade) comfort mask can also be worn. But these will provide less protection than regular surgical masks. Wearing an FFP2 or FFP3 mask is not necessary and is best reserved for healthcare providers who come into contact with infected people.
Infected patients should avoid wearing a mask with a valve because these masks do not stop the virus. With a mask with a valve, infected people can still infect others.
