What is haptotherapy?

Haptotherapy is a form of therapy that focuses on the interaction between touch and emotional experience. It is based on the principles of haptonomy, a discipline that examines how people feel and connect through touch.

Haptotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses touch to help people reconnect with their own feelings and body sensations. Through gentle touch, conversations, and exercises, it helps people get in better touch with their feelings and body, which could lead to improved well-being and a reduction in various complaints.

The therapy focuses on increasing body awareness, learning to deal with emotions, and improving personal relationships and self-confidence. It can help with dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, and psychosomatic complaints.

During the sessions, the haptotherapist uses gentle touch to help the client become aware of tensions and emotions that are stored in the body. Haptotherapy would mainly be used for psychosomatic complaints such as chronic pain, tension headaches, and fatigue. But also for stress, burnout and for emotional and psychological problems.

Haptotherapy is a holistic approach that focuses on the relationship between touch, emotion, and body awareness. Unfortunately, there are no good studies that can scientifically substantiate the effect.
