Are Hair Dryers Helpful Against COVID-19?
Hair dryers are not effective against COVID-19 and are not recommended as a means of combating the virus. Here are some reasons why hair dryers are not effective.
The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, cannot be inactivated by the heat of a hair dryer. The temperature that a hair dryer can reach is not high enough to kill the virus without burning the skin.
Even if the temperature were high enough, it would be difficult to heat the skin and mucous membranes evenly without causing damage. Viruses like SARS-CoV-2 reside deep in the respiratory tract, where the airflow from a hair dryer cannot reach.
Using a hair dryer at high temperatures close to the face can cause burns and other skin damage. In addition, inhaling hot air can irritate the respiratory tract.
Hair dryers are not helpful or effective against COVID-19 and can be potentially dangerous if used incorrectly. It is important to follow recognized prevention methods recommended by health organizations such as the WHO and CDC to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
