Can pets become infected with COVID-19?
Pets can become infected with COVID-19. Although the likelihood is low, there have been documented cases of pets, such as cats and dogs, becoming infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), pets can contract COVID-19, especially after close contact with infected people. In some cases, pets have also shown mild symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, coughing, or lethargy. However, there is no evidence that pets play a significant role in the spread of the virus to humans.
