What is osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is better known as osteoporosis. Women in particular suffer from it. How do you get it and what can you do about it?
Osteoporosis is the result of increased bone breakdown and reduced bone formation. This causes the bone to lose its strength. You don't feel anything because it doesn't hurt. But from the age of 50, this can lead to fractures of, for example, the hip, wrist, vertebrae, etc. in women. But older men can also break bones more easily due to osteoporosis.
What can you do against osteoporosis? Eat enough dairy products with calcium because they strengthen the bone. Take a brisk walk every day because exercise will slow down bone breakdown. Sit in the sun for half an hour every day because that will increase your vitamin D levels, which are necessary for bone building.
Discuss the risk of osteoporosis with your doctor. They may prescribe calcium and vitamin D for you. If necessary, he will recommend a bone density measurement.
