What to do about hair loss?
Everyone has about 100,000 hairs and we lose about 150 every day. That's normal. But if you're losing more hair, there could be something wrong.
The best-known form of hair loss is male pattern baldness, in which men lose hair on their crowns and temples. This form of baldness is often hereditary.
Most people are also familiar with the hair loss that occurs during chemotherapy or radiation. But many other medications can also cause baldness. In particular, medications for depression, cholesterol, heart problems and high blood pressure can cause hair loss. In that case, you should discuss the hair loss with your doctor and certainly not stop taking the medication on your own initiative.
Hormonal problems can also be the cause of hair loss: pregnancy and menopause, but also overproduction of testosterone and thyroid problems can cause hair loss.
Finally, diabetes, malnutrition and deficiencies in protein and iron can also cause hair loss.
