How does gout develop and what can you do about it?
People who have ever had a gout attack will undoubtedly remember this. What exactly is gout and what you can do about it?
Gout is a painful inflammation in the joints because too much uric acid accumulates as uric acid crystals. The joint becomes painful, red, swollen and shiny. Gout often occurs in the big toe, but the wrist, ankle and knee can also be affected.
In the event of a gout attack, it is best to rest the joint, apply ice or cold compresses and take an anti-inflammatory.
You can prevent a gout attack by avoiding red meat, seafood and organ meats, avoiding excessive alcohol and fruit juice, avoiding excessive exercise and avoiding water-repellent medicines.
People with gout often have elevated uric acid. Their doctor will prescribe them an appropriate diet and medication. If gout is not treated, serious damage to the joints and kidneys can occur.
