How to prevent a hangover?
We've all been there: a nice evening with friends or family and waking up the next day with a hellish headache and nausea.
A hangover is caused by excessive alcohol consumption. Alcohol has a diuretic effect, causing you to urinate more often and this quickly causes a fluid deficiency. This not only causes the well-known thirst, but also the headache. Alcohol breakdown substances such as acetaldehyde are then also released into your body. These worsen the headache and also make you feel nauseous.
The best way to prevent a hangover is of course to limit alcohol. But if you have had a drink, there are still a few ways to prevent a hangover. At the end of the party, drink as many glasses of water as you drank alcohol. Drink water and not soft drinks. Don't go to sleep right away, but stay awake for at least a few hours. Try to take a long walk after drinking.
