Is cell phone radiation dangerous?
Pseudoscientists are happy to link cell phone use to brain tumors, ADHD, depression, heart disease, behavioral disorders and reduced libido! But are those cell phone rays really that dangerous?
Cancer can only arise from damage to the DNA. Radiation from cell phone, WiFi and microwave is non-ionizing, which means that it does not have enough energy to damage DNA. This is in contrast to, for example, gamma radiation and UV radiation. The latter is found in normal sunlight and tanning beds and can cause skin cancer, for example.
But at high power (such as from an antenna mast), non-ionizing radiation causes heat. Some fear damage from thermal health effects, but these have never been proven, despite extensive and expensive research. The safety standards for mobile phone radiation are determined on the basis of the lowest level at which thermal effects are noticeable, divided by approximately a factor of 20.
In conclusion: sun rays are more dangerous than cell phone rays.
