How can you protect yourself from the heat?

Protection from extreme heat is essential to prevent health problems such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Here are some effective measures to protect yourself from heat.

Make sure to drink water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as these can promote dehydration. If you’re sweating heavily, electrolyte drinks can help replace lost salts and minerals.

Wear light, loose-fitting clothing in light colors to keep your body cool. Cotton and linen are good choices because they’re breathable. Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face, ears, and neck from direct sunlight. Use a high SPF sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

Try to avoid physical exertion during the hottest hours of the day, usually between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Seek out air-conditioned spaces or use fans to circulate the air. If you don’t have air conditioning, visit public places like malls, movie theaters, or libraries.

Avoid intense activities during the hottest hours of the day. If you have to work or exercise outside, do so early in the morning or later in the evening when it is cooler. Take frequent breaks in the shade or a cool place to give your body a chance to cool down.
