Is there scientific evidence for PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy has been the subject of numerous scientific studies, and the evidence regarding its effectiveness varies depending on the specific medical condition being treated.

Several studies have shown that PRP can be effective in reducing pain and improving function in patients with chronic tendonitis. For example, a study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that PRP injections provided better pain relief and functional improvement compared to corticosteroid injections in patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow).

Research on PRP for knee osteoarthritis has produced mixed results. Some studies suggest that PRP injections can reduce pain and improve function more effectively than hyaluronic acid injections or placebo, while others have found no significant difference. The usefulness of PRP for hair restoration and skin rejuvenation is not sufficiently scientifically substantiated.

There is scientific evidence supporting the use of PRP in certain medical conditions, particularly in orthopedics, dermatology and dentistry. However, the evidence is inconclusive and further research is needed to determine the full extent of PRP's benefits and optimize treatment protocols.
