Do creams that can prevent wrinkles really exist?
There are many creams and serums on the market that claim to prevent or reduce wrinkles. Here are some of the most common ingredients used in anti-wrinkle creams.
Retinoids (Retinol and Tretinoin are derivatives of vitamin A. They are one of the most researched ingredients for anti-wrinkle reduction creams. They stimulate collagen production and help renew skin cells. But evidence shows that they also prevent wrinkles is not robust.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that is said to help protect the skin from free radical damage and can also boost collagen production. Peptides are amino acid chains that help the skin repair and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Hyaluronic acid deeply hydrates the skin and can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and plump wrinkles.
Although these ingredients may be proven effective on cell cultures in the lab, no cream will work wonders to actually prevent wrinkles. There is evidence that a healthy diet, drinking enough water, healthy lifestyle choices, avoiding the sun, avoiding smoking, avoiding excessive alcohol consumption and regularly hydrating the skin can delay the appearance of wrinkles.
